- Sariel, first of all thank you for having accepted this challenge. It´s a big honor to me.

Thank you, I’m glad you’re interested in my work.

– Sariel, can you give me a brief summary of what you do, where you are, age and what are your hobbies extra lego, to make a short executive summary?

I work as a webdesigner for a huge media company. I’m living in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland which is the largest country in Eastern Europe. I’m 26 and my hobbies include webdesign, programming, photography, and some sport activities such as riding my bike, ice-skating or skiing.

- Do you have a “Dark-Age”?

I did have a Dark Age, yes. Just like most of us, when I was a teenager at certain point I turned my interest to my female classmates rather than bricks I thought playing with Lego bricks was childish, and it lasted for 5 or 6 years. Then I came back, took my old bricks out and started buying new ones.

- How often handles the parts and builds?

If you mean how often I buy parts and how much time I spend building, well, it’s a lot. I usually buy small amounts of some rare parts several times a month. And as for building, I tend to build on weekends and on evenings during the rest of the week. I don’t build every day, of course, but my workshop is ready all the time and I build whenever I feel like – which usually means that I don’t take breaks longer than one, two, sometimes three days.

– In your style building seek to maintain the detail and functionality. For some reason in particular?

I like the direction shown in MOCs of Jennifer Clark – a full Technic functionality plus a Model Team look. Jennifer’s constructions are very impressive because they look perfect and work perfect at the same time. It’s not difficult to build a model that looks really well or works really well – but to bring it together in a single construction, to mix these two aspects – well, I’d call it art.

- What are your major concerns once you build up?

I’m trying to make the model look good and work well, and to appear realistic both in look and in functioning. It’s difficult to balance between these two aspects, so usually most of my MOCs sacrifices a bit of look for the sake of functionality, and some of them do the opposite thing – the have limited functionality but look better. I’m always trying to find a reasonable compromise between these two things, but with some models there is simply focus on one of them rather than the other.

- What kind of construction appreciate it more, TECHNIC or System?

Technic is the reason why I came back from my Dark Age, so it will always be my favourite theme. But I like the System theme a lot too. I’d rather mix these two themes together than pick one and leave the other. I would be delighted if Lego decided to release some sets that mix System look with Technic functionality. The new Technic sets look good and realistic, but I’m sure their look could be greatly enhanced with some building techniques typical for the System theme.

- Do you have any difficulty in buying lego in your country?

Actually, I don’t buy Lego in my country. For some reason the prices of Lego bricks for Poland at Shop@Home are extremely high, much higher than for the Germany, for example, not to mention United States. Lego bricks are widely available in my country, there are shops all around, but they are really expensive. This is why I make 90% of my purchases using Bricklink, I buy mainly from Germany, UK and Italy. The remaining 10% come from shopping at Allegro, the largest auction website in Poland.

– For my curiosity, what are your favorite manufacturers?

My favourite builders are Jennifer Clark, Eric Leppen and Nico71. They are all excellent builders, but their areas of speciality are slightly different. Jennifer is perfect in mixing the Technic and Model Teams themes. Eric is genial in buildind extremely complex, purely mechanical vehicles (no motors included), and Nico is awesome with liftarms. I think Nico could easily work as a Lego designer, his proficiency in building with liftarms is just amazing.

Thank you for this interview, it was a great honor blog you !
