-Hi Nico.
-It´s a pleasure for me having your interview in my blog.
Yeah Me too
- Nico, tell us some things about you.
What you do ? What do you like ?
I am 21 and a three year student in mechanical engeenering in engeenering school. I am a French AFOL and come from Haute Savoie. My Lego adventure started in 1995 when I got my first Lego box: the Supercar 8880. It was a revelation and during the next 6 years, I bought all the super sets (one set a year). In January 2007, after my Dark Age, i bought the 8436.
So, my Lego adventure started again, but this time it is definitely with the studless parts !
- Did you had a Dark-Age ?
Yes, 2001 to 2007 exactly. In january i bought the 8436 Set and its’ was a new revelation. I bought after the 8284, 8145, 8275, 8455 and 8458 (in order).
- You only construct with TECHNIC parts. Any special reason ?
I think the technic part is the best way to create evolved mecanism and machinery. I like also the brick design like Arvo and Steven1980.
- Do you invest many time to “study” your projects before you start to build ?
Yes, I thinks a good moc is fisrt of all a good study. Per exemple, on this moc : Wheel-Exacavator. I dispend 10h to study how I could create this and After 10h more to create. Like a engineer, I always dispend time to do the study.
-When you are building, you pratice some new techniques or you use almost the same ones?
In fact, My lego experience is based on Lego technique and mine. When I bought the 8436 set, I created the set and after, I moc with only part of this set. The essentials of my techniques is due to this. But I try to innovate per exemple with frame with minumum part and maximun rigidity. Also I try to build in modular ways. Because it’s more simple to remove and do instructions.
-Building machines are your favourite theme in Technic. Why ?
Because I hope work on this later ^^. Seriously, I think it’s a good theme to put in application the evolved mechanism in lego technic, like gear, motor, pneumatic.. But The Car theme is quite interessing. My best exemple for this is my Hemi Cuda, because it’s represents a beautiful car with lego brick and technic inside (V8, gerabox, independant suspensions, steering…). I like also the LPE (Lego Pneumatic Engine), it’s why i develop a simplified motor of LPE3I by LPEpower but without modifed part. It works with two pump and turn to 100rpm slighty and smoothly.

-What do you thing about the new technic parts? These new parts helped you?
I dislike the linear actuators because they’are gray and not yellow and too long, but i like the new part like frame or new connector. More connector is always good for builder. But i hope that LEGO create more pneumatics system, like compressor or yellow air tank.

-Lets suppose that LEGO invites you to a new project for a new technic model ? What type of construcion would you purpose ?
I think i will not propose a big project like my wheel excavator or Wheel Loader 2, because I know that LEGO create for young people, child and pupils, but the afols hope see a big and evolved set. So, in accord to political commercial of LEGO, i will propose this type of moc : Tow-Truck or Service Unimog. A simple moc with pneumatic, engine, suspensions, maybe PFS fun and cheap to produced. At 140€ i’m sure that the Afol buy this.
-Can you tell me who are your favourite builders?
My favorite builders are Erik Leppen, the master of crane, Zoli, master of big construction, Sariel, master of ideas ^^ And Nathanael Kuipers (IndustrialDesigner of Brickshefl), master of supercar. All this builder have a speciality and for my work, i inspired by them. It’s why i quote all my credit in Brickshelf and article and i give my work for free. Per exemple, the LPE3 have free instruction, on LPEpower, the price is 140€. I try to create instruction as possible I can.

Nicolas, thanks for your time.
It´s a big pleasure for me.
Me to ! I am proud to eppeard on your blog, and that the french builder is represented in lego society.
